A Wee Spot for Eeyore

It's here!!!

Canada Reads 2008 has officially launched. I'm quite excited about this, in case you couldn't tell. A book by my favourite author, Timothy Findley, is on the list this year. If you haven't read "Not Wanted on the Voyage", read it. I. Love. That. Book. I find myself quite sad, though, that Tiff will never write another novel. Sadly, he passed away in 2002. I'm not so eager to read all of his books too quickly since there won't be any more. Other than that - not much is new. A student pretended to shoot me today at school. Intersting.

Unplanned Holiday

I've been home on "holiday" since Tuesday night thanks to a nasty case of laryngitits. For those of you keeping track, yes, this weekend is my first choral concert in over 2 years. No, I'm not very happy. Bummed out actually. But, it snowed today - I enjoy that when I don't have to drive in it! Nothing much else right now - just trying to keep quiet!!

Odds and Ends

I decided today that I was going to listen to Christmas music. I don't really care that it's only November 18 - only! where is this year going??? Christmas music makes me feel happy and I'm home alone, so Christmas carols it is. Not to mention the fact that it's Bing Crosby and friends singing.....can't be beat! I wish it was snowing just a bit outside - but then I wouldn't be able to see it anyway, so I can imagine whatever I want! I've decided that living in a basement apartment is a bit like being in a timeless pit - there is no natural light to inform you of the time of day, the weather - and as a result, what mood you should be in on a given day. It could be 11pm and feel like noon or 9am and feel like supper time. I can only imagine how amazing it is going to feel when we finally own a house with windows!! I'm experimenting these days with a theory - that theory is that if my house is clean and tidy I will be more relaxed. So, I'm using some guidelines I found on RealSimple.com about things to do daily, weekly, and seasonally. Hope it helps. I just feel stressed when I'm out doing something and I know I should be at home cleaning. Or at least that's how I feel - like we go out and the dishes aren't done - that drives me batty!! Then they are just waiting for you in morning. Nobody wants to start their day with dishes! Friday night I got to put a baby to sleep by stroking his peach-fuzz hair. Too cute. It's incredible how much babies change in the first year. We only went 3 or 4 weeks without seeing him and he's so much more alert now! I think that's the extent of my insightful thoughts up to this point - hope to be back soon!

Operation Christmas Child

This afternoon, I filled a shoebox with pretty pink things for a little girl far away. What a great feeling to know that I have brightened the day of someone less fortunate than I. And I did it all for under $20!! Jay and I just bought a new couch a week or so ago and it it soooo beautiful! It was high time as the old couch was unsupportive and actually broken. Also - white is not a wise colour for a sofa! In other news.....my choir is singing their first concert of the season on November 24th. It should be a good show - I'm looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to the break from Saturday morning rehearsals until the new year. I need a morning to sleep in!! School is wearing me out this year - I'm running all over the place. My schedule is less that kind to a rotary teacher, and I'm feeling the effects. I have lost 4lbs since the beginning of school though, so that's nothing to complain about! My primary choir at school has about 50 members - and they keep coming week after week! I hope they steal the show at the Christmas concert this year - they are working hard! I guess that's the news for today....oh. I read a book called Mercy by Jodi Picoult. Dear god - did I cry like a baby! Sobbing - seriously. Good book though - if you can handle pondering your decisions in the same situation. Now I'm on to Middlesex - hope it's good! Tata.
